Administration Guide
The Administration Guide is for IT teams, security reviewers, platform administrators, and technical stakeholders who need to understand how RI Platform is operated, secured, connected, and maintained.
RI Platform can be deployed as a Reliable Insights hosted service, within customer-managed cloud environments, on customer infrastructure, or in operational technology (OT) environments where required. This guide primarily describes the hosted deployment. Administration may differ for other deployment models. This guide covers security controls, authentication, permissions, networking, monitoring, logging, and maintenance.
What is RI Platform
RI Platform is Reliable Insights’ operational platform for deploying, governing and operating AI and advanced analytics for industrial time-series data across cloud, on-premises and operational technology environments.
Secure and manageable by design
Reliable Insights is designed around secure authentication, workspace boundaries, scoped API access, and backend-enforced controls.
The platform separates user identity, workspace membership, role-based administration, API access, uploaded data, datasource credentials, billing-sensitive actions, and auditability into distinct control areas. This helps make access easier to manage and reduces reliance on any single user interface state or client-side check.
Security-sensitive actions are enforced primarily by backend services. The user interface provides guided workflows and safer defaults, but backend services remain the source of truth for authentication, authorisation, workspace access, API key permissions, upload validation, datasource handling, and billing-sensitive actions.
Who this guide is for
This guide is intended for:
- IT administrators who need to understand access, networking, monitoring, and maintenance requirements.
- Security teams who need to review platform controls, data handling, authentication, permissions, and logging.
- Procurement and technical reviewers who need a high-level understanding of how the platform is secured and operated.
- Implementation teams who need to plan integration, monitoring, and support processes.
Administration Guide sections
-
Security - Understand the core security principles built into the platform, including workspace separation, backend-enforced controls, scoped access, credential handling, and secure data workflows.
-
Authentication & SSO - Review how users authenticate with the platform, how account access is protected, and how identity-related controls should be managed.
-
RBAC & Permissions - Learn how workspace membership, roles, administrative permissions, and scoped API access help control what users and integrations can do.
- Networking - Review network connectivity considerations, datasource access patterns, outbound connections, and customer-side networking requirements.
- Monitoring & Logging - Understand how selected events and operational information support traceability, investigation, and platform review.
-
Upgrades & Maintenance - Understand how maintenance, updates, and operational changes should be planned and communicated.
-
Platform Architecture - See a high-level view of the main platform areas and data flows.
Administration responsibilities
Reliable Insights provides platform-level controls, but customers also play an important role in secure and reliable operation.
Customers should:
- Manage workspace membership carefully.
- Assign roles based on least privilege.
- Store API keys and datasource credentials securely.
- Revoke unused or exposed credentials promptly.
- Use separate workspaces for separate teams, customers, environments, or workflows.
- Review logs, alerts, and integration activity where available.
- Follow internal policies for data handling, access review, and change management.
- Confirm networking, monitoring, maintenance, and support expectations before production use.
Product controls and customer controls
Administration is shared between Reliable Insights platform controls and customer configuration choices.
Reliable Insights provides controls such as secure authentication, workspace boundaries, API key scopes, backend validation, datasource credential handling, and selected security-relevant event records.
Customers control how the platform is used within their organisation, including who is invited to workspaces, which roles users receive, which API keys are generated, which datasources are connected, what data is uploaded, and how integrations are managed.
Important note
This guide describes product-level administration, security, and operational considerations.
Some aspects, such as compliance commitments, data residency, backup retention, recovery expectations, and contractual support arrangements, may be configured specifically to a customer’s needs. Please contact our support team if this is a requirement.
Where required for procurement, security review, or contractual assessment, these details should be confirmed with Reliable Insights directly.
